KENNESAW, Ga. — The Kennesaw State men’s basketball team delivered one of its biggest wins of the season Thursday night, defeating Conference USA leader Liberty 74-65 to take sole possession of first place in the conference standings.
With the victory, Kennesaw State improved to 17-11 overall, while Liberty fell to 23-5.
The Owls were led by a balanced offensive effort, highlighted by a team-high scoring performance from their backcourt. Kennesaw State placed multiple players in double figures and shot efficiently from the field during key stretches of the second half.
After a tightly contested first half, the Owls created separation midway through the second period with a decisive scoring run fueled by defensive stops and transition opportunities. Kennesaw State forced timely turnovers and limited Liberty’s perimeter shooting, an area that has been a strength for the Flames throughout conference play.
In addition to the scoring production, the Owls controlled the glass and converted at the free-throw line down the stretch to secure the nine-point victory. Strong bench contributions also provided valuable minutes, helping maintain energy and defensive intensity.
Liberty entered the contest as the top seed in Conference USA and one of the most consistent teams in league play. The win not only handed the Flames their fifth loss of the season but shifted momentum in the conference race.
With postseason play approaching, Kennesaw State now sits atop Conference USA and carries significant confidence into the final stretch of the regular season.
