KENNESAW, Ga. — In his first year as the head football coach at Kennesaw State, Coach Jerry Mack has been listed as 1 of 24 college coaches named as a George Munger College Football Coach of the Year semifinalist.
Coach Mack has led the owls to a 7-3 record as of now, in his first season with the Owls. Last Season the Owls finished at 2-10with the previous head coach, Coach Bohannon.
So far, Mack’s success has seemed to be predicated on his fast-acting, pro-style offense which has seen far more explosive plays than previously.
This year, the Owls are averaging 26 points per game, as compared to last year where they averaged just 16.5 points per game. This difference amounts to a 57% increase over over the previous season
Similarly, KSU has averaged 7.79 yards per passing attempt this year where as they only averaged 5.51 in the previous season.
It should be noted that Jerry Mack’s defense has also been an improvement over the previous regime. This season the Owls have only allowed 22.5 points per game from opponents. Last year they averaged 31.1 points allowed per game.
Coach Mack and his staff look to continue their success so far this season with their final home game of the year against the newest member of Conference USA the Missouri State Bears.
The Bears are also 7-3 in their first season at the FBS level and are sure to be a challenging matchup for the Owls as they continue to fight for a spot in the CUSA Championship game.
